Stephen Bourjilay, a design engineer for a computer company based in the Arizona desert, is heading for a nervous breakdown. Family life in their gated community is becoming increasingly weird.

His wife, BB, an advertising guru, is obsessed with marketing pine-scented cat-litter, leaving their twin daughters in the incapable hands of their grandparents. Grandad's inoperable brain tumor is having a Jekyll and Hyde effect — turning him from a gentle geriatric into an aggressive old groper — while Grandma 's drinking has gotten out of hand.

Something has got to give. Visions of Charles Mingus, death, rape, illegal immigration — these are just some of the things in which Bourjilay manages to implicate himself in this acerbic portrayal of middle-class social mores.
